KELSTER - I'm a journalist by trade but I spend as much spare time as I can afford to working on music. I'm not in a band because I suspect my control-freak tendencies would precipitate a split before the first rehearsal had finished... I usually write my stuff on an acoustic guitar and then try and knock it into shape on my computer. I use a fairly outdated studio program (Cakewalk Music Creator 2003) but recently invested in a Tascam US-122 soundcard which has helped improve the clarity and quality of the audio on my most recent tracks. I love writing music and I'm learning all the time. Sometimes a personal experience inspires a song -- sometimes I just go with a train of thought and see where it takes me. I'm not really trying to achieve a specific sound; I just hope it sounds good. I guess my main aim is to write music with melody and harmony; I'm not worried that my music doesn't break any new ground.
